Put your paper on your own domain
Out of the box your paper is read at your-desk.newsroomfloor.com. To read it at your own address,
like news.acme.com, you add one DNS record and we handle the certificate.
The steps
- In your desk settings, add your domain (for example news.acme.com) under reader domains.
- At your DNS provider, add one record: a CNAME from news.acme.com to the target we show
you in settings. This is your only manual step.
- We create the certificate for your domain and turn the paper on there once it is ready. You do not
give us access to your DNS account; you only add the one CNAME.
- In your desk settings, set your primary domain to this address. Every page then points readers
and search engines at the one address, so a paper read at both your subdomain and your own domain does not
split its search ranking. Your built-in subdomain keeps working, so no link ever breaks.
Good to know
- Your built-in your-desk.newsroomfloor.com address keeps working. If you later ask us to redirect it to your
domain, it forwards for good, because receipts, links, and share cards already point at it.
- An apex domain (acme.com with no subdomain) needs a provider that supports CNAME-style records at the
root; a subdomain like news.acme.com always works.
- A custom domain is a paid step, because the certificate is metered. The built-in subdomain is free.
