Spending on OpenAI and Anthropic is more concentrated than any other software category tracked by the firm, per October 2026 reports.

Just 1% of Ramp's business customers account for 80% of all enterprise spending on OpenAI and Anthropic, the corporate card company reported this week.

The finding is drawn from transaction data covering more than 70,000 US businesses.

Ramp lead economist Ara Kharazian stated this concentration is greater than any other software category the firm tracks.

Separate data from YipitData shows concentration at Anthropic specifically has risen sharply. The company's top 1% of customers generated 46% of its revenue in August 2026, up from 25% one year prior.

Kharazian also noted that this dynamic has given enterprise buyers leverage. OpenAI and Anthropic are offering customer discounts rather than locking in guaranteed high spend levels in contracts.

This suggests very few businesses are currently committing meaningful budget to commercial AI tools.
